regarding Chapter 13: Freeway Merge and Diverge Segments

Hello,

is it possible to use somehow the freeway ramp model to analyse the geometry as shown in this figure: http://ahcoelho.net/downloads/temp/question_ramp_geometry.pdf? In the junction, right after its beginning, there is a continuous line with road studs that avoids lane changes. The on-ramp has two lanes, and just one of them is an acceleration lane, while the other makes the freeway with one more lane. I think, that this geometry is not covered by the HCM, but a confirmation would be nice.

Thank you for any comments.

I wasn’t able to access your PDF file, but the HCM procedures will model a two-lane merge with a lane addition as two basic segments (each with the appropriate number of lanes) and perform a capacity check on the ramp – please let me know if I can help further.
